Wingmen are the pilots who fly the Skyhawk aircraft stationed on each Federation wagon-train. They think of themselves as the best of the best, the most elite soldiers in the Federation. They are part of the Trail-Blazer division and integrated into its command structure, with wingmen expected to also carry out ground combat operations and man battle stations on the train when ordered, but have their own separate training facility (at the Flight Academy near navref Alamogordo, New Mexico). Wingmen are also unusual among Trackers for being encouraged to develop personal initiative and self-reliance in the field, in stark contrast to the team effort encouraged in other areas of the military.
The Mutes call them 'cloud-warriors'.
